    Summer is the perfect season to spend some quality time outdoors. Take advantage of all the beauty Louisiana has to offer before this season is over. Planning a camping trip with friends or family is the perfect way to get up close and personal with Mother Nature. There are so many Louisiana camping destinations that it can be hard to choose. Our gorgeous state is called “Sportsman’s Paradise” for a good reason! We’ve rounded up some of the best camping in Louisiana so the research is all done for you!

    1. Chicot State Park

    If you want some quality time on the water, Chicot State Park may be exactly what you’re looking for. Located near Ville Platte, this gorgeous park offers miles of hiking trails and primitive campsites and cabins available for rent. And best of all, you can rent canoes to explore beautiful Lake Chicot.

    2. Grand Isle State Park

    As far as seaside camping goes, you can’t get much better than Grand Isle State Park where you can wake up next to the ocean. That’s right – with 49 premium campsites and 15 tent sites on the beach, you can cook fresh seafood over a fire with the ocean as your backdrop, and you can wake up to go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Can’t beat that!


    3. Lake Bistineau State Park

    If you live for fishing, don’t miss Lake Bistineau State Park, which was named one of the best bass lakes in 2015 and also offers an 18-hole disc golf course as well as boat rentals.

    4. Athena’s Magic School Bus

    If you dream of camping in an urban setting, your mind is about to be blown! You can spend the night in a fully converted school bus, centrally located near Tulane University. You can have a super unique camping experience without even leaving the city!

    5. Kisatchie Ranger District Wilderness Area

    For the true outdoorsman, Kisatchie Ranger District Wilderness Area provides some of the most incredible bluffs and rolling hills in Louisiana. With more than 8,700 acres of wilderness land, you’re sure to feel a million miles away from the hustle of home.

    6. Lake D’Arbonne State Park

    Nestled between pine forests and rolling hills, Lake D’Arbonne State Park is loved by fishermen, cyclists and hikers alike. There are even tennis courts on site in case you want to play a match!

    7. Tunica Hills Campground

    If you love chasing waterfalls, the Tunica Hills area will strike your fancy. Just northwest of St. Francisville, this privately-run campground is a perfect escape and home base for viewing the gorgeous Tunica Hills Waterfalls.

    8. Poverty Point

    Despite its name, this area is rich in wildlife. With a variety of fish and even the elusive Louisiana black bear, a trip to this wilderness area is one you’ll surely remember. A short day trip to the nearby Poverty Point historic site is well worth it, as it is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the United States.
